The Kampala based Iteso Welfare Association Uganda (IWA) together with MPs from Teso have announced plans to hold prayers as a way of lobbying for food relief for their starving constituents.

The Executive Director IWA Uganda Mr. Tom Okelloto told Chimpreports that due to prolonged drought in the eastern region, the association decided to collaborate with other partners including MPs under the Teso Parliamentary Group (TPG) and the church to find solutions.

Okelloto says a number of consultations were held and even the State Minister for Disaster Preparedness Musa Ecweru okayed the prayers and food collection initiative and pledged to support them with transport when the food items are ready.

“The situation in Teso as we speak is very tense and people have started eating wild insects. So as IWA we sat down and agreed to supplement what government is putting across”, Said Okelloto.

While delivering food aid to Katakwi district early this month, the disaster minister asked all able development partners to come support Iteso from this crisis.

According to the IWA program, prayers will be held on Saturday 06th May 2017 starting at 03:00 PM inside St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Church Kampala and the mass led by Msgr. John Baptist Kauta and assisted by Retired Rev. Job Osuret, Retired Bishop Charles Bernard Obaikol, Rev. Simon Peter Emyau and Rev. John Robert Angiro.

During the prayers well-wishers will be asked to make all kinds of contributions to support the cause.

When contacted the chairperson Teso Parliamentary Group Hon. Bp. Patrick Okabe said, “As TPG we welcome the efforts of individuals and organizations which are trying to raise food for Iteso.”
